March, 2010

I am so sorry I (Jamie) forgot to post last month's prayer letter up here. Here it is...

How God Used You;

We could not do this ministry without our team:

Read more about most in the sections below

- Awesome Bible studies

- Meeting a very spiritually diverse group of students and having an impact on them.

-unchurched students coming and seeking.

-Starting a new Christian Challenge Club at an unreached, super liberal Arizona State University Campus

-Student leaders are being invested in and trained up.

Made possible by God’s mighty power and your prayers & giving:

thank you!

Guys Bible Study

Our study, that we call, Man Clan, is going very well. I have been going back to the more intentional one on one discipleship model, and picked out a few guys to really pour into. One of those guys is E. He started off on the fringe, maybe wary of me and Christianity, but after awhile, he started coming to Man Clan, and now he is regular, reading his Bible every week, inviting people to Christian Challenge, and becoming a good friend. We’ve been able to be open with each other, and I can press him on Spiritual matters and he responds well. We’ve even started giving him some tasks to do to help out Christian Challenge as we reach the campus.

Another guy is N. He just started coming this semester to Man Clan, even though he was one of the first people I met on the campus in the fall. He’s going to be the door to reach some other guys as well. He is a Christian who took a semester off of church, and I’m working on having him come back, which would be really exciting.

I also have D and S, who are steadily growing to be more like Christ. All the guys are making headway, and I’ve been working hard to be a discipler with them, not just a Bible study leader.

Pray for our Leadership

This is a hard season for some of our leadership, and nursing classes are getting more demanding; the stresses of school are taking their toll. Between Kelsey, Ryan and I, we have a total of 26 more credits than we did last semester. Pray for everyone as they’re still trying to pour in to the ministry and focus on all the other things that still demand our attention.

Also, Kelsey, one of the best leaders I’ve ever had on my team, has been accepted to nursing school on the other side of the nation. ASU won’t let her know if she’s accepted in their program until June. I really want her to stay, of course, but she can’t if ASU doesn’t accept her, and the nursing program regularly turns away 4.0 students because the program isn’t big enough to accept all of the students, even students that are more than qualified.

These are the demands and problems of college ministry, but the students are worth it. The good news is people are still engaged in Bible study, we’re still having new people come, like G, who has quite a tough exterior, but I think God will get a hold of her soon enough, we have been recruiting new leadership to help and we’re getting close to spring break. Pray for Kelsey especially this month, and the rest of our leadership. We have a great task ahead of us, and I need them!

Powers Update

People constantly asking me how I can do twins ( I remember being on the asking end of that question!) and I always say, “I have a great family.” My family has been amazing: local and in Kentucky. In Jan. got to have Bry’s sister and her husband and in Feb. we got to have Bry’s G’ma and a day after she left, his mom, Granny Dee, came in for another awesome three weeks!

As I walked up the flight of stairs to pick Dallas up from preschool, I basked in the glory of not having to carry two 20 pound babies (in their car seats)! The joy of getting to spend time with our Kentucky family, as well as the fun of going grocery shopping alone (not like a circus juggling act), were very much appreciated!

Dallas and the babies enjoyed lots of one-on-one time, book reading, rocking, adventures and being loved on!

LOVE YOU G’ma and Granny Dee!
